| Rezumat: | [Argumentative Structures in the Religious Discourse. The Sermon on the Consecration of a Church] The present study presents several argumentative structures and rhetorical techniques that occur in religious discourse, with reference to a sermon delivered by the Romanian Metropolitan Antonie Plămădeală upon the consecration of a church. Unlike the liturgical sermon, the preaching on the consecration of a church is delivered in front of a very large audience and, thus, the priest outlines the essence of the Christian Orthodox teachings on the importance of the Church and priesthood and also dismisses other dogmatic challenges that the believers might be subjected to. In short, we analyzed the adequacy of the discourse to the communicative context and the communicative performance of the speaker by describing the use of such rhetorical arguments as the authority of the hierarch, the biblical and patristic quotation, the use of popular proverbs and sayings and the appeal to transfer the Scripture’s teachings on the believer’s daily life. |
