| Rezumat: | [Phraseology And Its Importance for the Lexical Etymology (With Special Reference to Phraseological Borrowings and loan Translations of French Origin in Romanian)] The first part of this paper deals with phraseology as autonomous or independent field of language and with its object of study, the phraseological unit, which includes phrases, collocations and lexical combinations with functional and semantic unity in language. The second part deals with phraseological etymology (both borrowings and loan translations). Romanian has many borrowed and loan translated phrases, collocations and specialized lexical combinations of French origin, which include in their structure a neological word of Latin origin: efect (cf. efecte comice < fr. effets comiques, efecte publice < fr. effets publiques); impozit (cf. impozit progresiv < fr. impôt progressif, impozit proporţional < fr. impôt proportionnel, impozit funciar < fr. impôt foncier); spirit (cf. spiritul legii < fr. l’esprit de la loi, persoană/om de spirit < fr. homme d’esprit, spirit de sacrificiu < fr. l’esprit de sacrifice, spirit de competiţie < fr. l’esprit de la compétition, spirit critic < fr. l’esprit critique, stare de spirit < fr. l’état d’esprit); virtute (cf. virtuţi creştine < fr. vertus chrétiennes, virtuţi cardinale < fr. vertus cardinales, virtuţi teologale < fr. vertus théologales, în virtutea < fr. en vertu de). In our opinion, it is not only very important, but also absolutely necessary to admit a big contribution of the French language when we propose the origin of such lexical units in Romanian and to accept that they illustrate the principle of multiple etymology: from Latin or from Latin and from other language concerning the form and from French concerning the meanings. Only in this manner we can explain for consiliu, efect, familie, impozit, materie, spirit, stat, virtute etc. most of their special lexical and phraseological meanings in Romanian. |
