| Rezumat: | The present paper looks at a specific dative structure in Old Romanian – the possessive dative. It isolates and analyzes five types of such possessive dative structures in Old Romanian. The major aim is to build up a comprehensive corpus of possessive dative structures in Old Romanian, to be used by further research. The second aim is to look at the way in which such structures may benefit from the syntactic analyses available in the literature on datives, in particular from the analysis along the lines of possessor raising. The paper is organized as follows. Section 1 discusses influential proposes on the syntax and semantics of the possessive dative in Modern Romanian, in an attempt to see how the Old Romanian possessive dative constructions fit in the general picture. Section 2 represents the corpus listing the five types of possessive dative structures we were able to identify. Section 3 offers some insights into a possible syntactic analysis. Section 4 gives the conclusions. |
