| Rezumat: | The present article presents a preliminary report of an ongoing research begun in 2010, whose main objective is the edition of three unpublished manuscripts of Vlad Boţulescu, secretary of the Walachian prince Stefan Cantacuzen (1714−1716) and of his sons, Radu and Constantin. Boţulescu’s literary legacy totalises more than 1,000 pages, and comprises translations from Italian (Life of Skanderbeg, Barlaam and Joasaph, Life and Miracles of St Felice etc.) and German (World Chronicle). The manuscripts, achieved in 1763–1764, are currently kept at the Archivio di Stato in Venice and in the Austrian National Library in Vienna. The project also seeks to reconstruct the biography of Boţulescu, one of the leading – yet practically unknown – Romanian translators of his time, and to provide an extensive study on his language, which will make an important contribution to the history of the 18th century Romanian vocabulary, regarding particularly the neologisms of Italian and German origin. |
