| Rezumat: | [The rediscovery of a lost work: the Romanian Octoichos of Metropolitan Dosoftei of Moldavia] This paper brings back to light a lost book, very important to the Romanian culture. It is the first Octoichos that was translated into Romanian and printed sometimes between 1683 and 1686. The translation was made by metropolitan Dosoftei of Moldavia (1671–1674; 1675–1686). The book was preserved at the Monastery of Putna until 1895 when it was given away and so its track was lost. This work of Romanian religious literature was found in 2008 and returned to the Monastery of Putna in 2010. This book, together with other four translated by the same author, mark the beginning of liturgical use of the Romanian language. In this Octoichos, metropolitan Dosoftei invented new Romanian words, thus enriching the Romanian language. The book also has annotations of metropolitan Dosoftei in his own handwriting, representing reviews to the translation. This is the oldest Romanian Octoichos that survived to our days and it is the only copy left. |
