| Rezumat: | The present study aims at analysing several names of diseases, symptoms or various pathogens (viruses and bacilli), in whose structure one can find the “trace” of an identifiable onomastic “echo”. Most often, the latter occurs as an anthroponym that directly refers to the person/persons who discovered and named the medical phenomenon in question: Addison disease, Alzheimer disease, Little disease, Parkinson disease; Down syndrome, Simmonds syndrome, Tourette syndrome; and Ebstein-Barr virus among others. At the same time, the paper discusses certain names of viruses that are based on toponyms (Crimean-Congo virus, Lissa virus) or hydronyms (Ebola virus). The locative reference spatially circumscribes the area affected by the virus. The approach is both medical (the taxonomy of medical names will be presented from the perspective of the affections of various tracts/systems, such as the digestive tract or the endocrine system) and linguistic, as the name structures are analysed morphologically and syntactically. Thus, in addition to established items occurring in syntactically canonical structures (the generic terms disease, syndrome and virus + anthroponymic/toponymic determined element), one can also come across elliptic structures, such as patients with Parkinson or treatment against Alzheimer. |
