| Rezumat: | Pupils currently use a colourful vocabulary, especially in a non-formal setting, this type of language considered deviation from the norm and present in their everyday speech is usually „spiced” up with slang terms, taboo words, but also puns. The present research is mainly aimed at investigating slang in the school environment with the tools provided by sociolinguistics, focusing on the factors underlying the spread of this phenomenon (age peculiarities, level of culture, gender, family background, geographical context), as well as a lexico-semantic analysis of the terms frequently used by pupils on social networks, slang being considered „a marker of social difference” (Allen 2001: 265). Drawing on William Labov’s research on black American teenagers’ language, we focused mainly on recording and analyzing the argotic terms identified on several chat groups from Facebook, as this is one of pupils’ favourite social media platform. In parallel, using the observation method, we have gathered other argotic terms, present in pupils’ spontaneous language, either during classes or during breaks. Our study attempts not only to identify the key features of slang language in the school environment, but also to sketch a typology. |
