| Rezumat: | This paper examines the semantic and syntactic variety of active past participles with adjectival value in Daco-Romanian territorial variants, on the basis of a dialectal corpus. It discusses the semantic-syntactic restrictions on the adjectivization of active past participles in Romanian, the tests distinguishing between verbal and adjectival past participles, on the one hand, and resultative and stative participial adjectives, on the other hand, and the structure of the adjectival participial clause. This study finds that (a) compared to modern standard Romanian, the dialectal corpus contains a larger inventory of participial adjectives with active value, however, compared to both modern standard Romanian and old Romanian, there are no differences in terms of semantic types of verbs that these participles are based on; (b) the corpus analysis confirms the predictions of Sorace ̓s (2015) Split Intransitivity Hierarchy, but it does not confirm the statement according to which participles of verbs expressing a (non-motional) controlled process cannot be adjectivized, thus revealing the weakness of this unnaccusativity test; (c) in dialectal Romanian, unlike the modern standard Romanian, adjectival participles can conserve the direct object of their transitive verb-source. |
