Rezumat:[Loanwords and word formations with loanwords in Transylvanian-Saxon: Professional titles, specialised vocabulary for certain crafts, loanwords which refer to social standing from a historical view and relate to administrative functions (officials, honoraries)]
This paper aims at grouping loanwords in the Transylvanian-Saxon language according to certain criteria, analysing their meaning based on their origin and, in some cases, placing them in a historical context. As the loanwords discussed are simplicia or compound words (consisting of a loaned term and a German root word), the aforementioned aspects have been taken into consideration.
The section “Professional titles changing in time” contains mostly terms borrowed from Romanian and Hungarian, which pertain to sheep breeding and originate in the time of serfdom, when both Saxons and Romanians were bonded to the Adelsboden (‘nobilities’ properties’). Additionally this study discusses loanwords pertaining to viniculture, commerce, soldier estate, professions taken on by gypsies, and the Romanian clergy. The section “Special vocabulary for crafts” contains mostly humorous professional titles, relating to certain crafts, mainly loanwords from Romanian, but from other languages as well. The last category covers loanwords referring to administrative functions (officials, honoraries) in their historical context. The examples of vernacular language are taken from the Transylvanian-Saxon Dictionary and the North-Transylvanian-Saxon Dictionary for craft-related expressions by Friedrich Krauß. In addition, there are vernacular terms from specialised literature and document records from Transylvanian-Saxon sources.
