Rezumat: | [Ménage à trois in the Inter-Ethnic Inferno: the Feminine Body and the Other’s Gaze in the Balkan Late Novel] The present study emphasizes that the lectures on controversial Southeastern writers such as Nikos Kazantzakis or Panait Istrati can be diverse. What really matters is looking for a common meaning to a common theme: rewriting the recent, regional history by using some of Europe’s most famous literary “burdens”, such as the one called ménage à trois. All their novels, but mainly the ones analyzed here, are interested by and therefore seeking for a worthily significance of the controversial relationship identity vs. alterity. For understanding the authors’ intentions, but also the various dramas behind the scene, an ideological reading seems, however, quite poor. The labor of understanding the writers’ imaginative efforts and their fertile work in the narrative and stylistic areas is required. The present paper offers a complex and well documented approach (enlarged, multicultural comparatism), taking into account the philosophical and metaphysical meanings that the ancient European theme of ménage à trois requires in Viaţa şi peripeţiile lui Alexis Zorbas or Neranţula. |
