| Rezumat: | Vladimir Nabokov, as a writer in both Russian and English personally translated some of his literary works. This article is a brief research of his self-translation by means of a comparative analysis of his novel “Otchayanie” in Russian and “Despair”, its English translation by the author. We proceed to classify various modifications in the translated version in comparison to what would be a literal equivalent of the text. Also, our goal is to pinpoint the divergences and text additions made by the author. The final aim of this work is to verify whether the author-translator follows his own theoretical ideas and allows himself a certain degree of freedom in the process of translation. |
