Rezumat:The interpretation aims at Hasdeu's speculation about history of philosophy intimately connected with the ambivalent nature of the soul: on the one hand, the dialectic of free will and fatality, on another the matter of Providence. It is a true spiritualist phenomenology in relation to the definition of the Self and its status integrated to the doctrine of transmigration and reincarnation. Through free will, the soul is more than aware; it is above all self-consciousness, its work of re-creation representing an act of restoration and freedom. As for fate, it is not the result of blind determinism, an intolerable Providence, but a divine vigil, a creative super-vision. The intention that triggers the tension of the soul towards the infinite is, according to its free will, in its turn, over-directed by the intentional cause of Providence that subtends all individual directions. Natural selection is not sufficient to open to be towards the horizon of to become, in order that the soul may become what it is meant to be. Providential selection does not crush free will, the freedom and responsibility of directing, but super-vises them with the purpose of their inclusion in the upward movement of the universal becoming. As such, not only free will, not providence alone, but their concerted action that reconciles inferior to superior, gradual determination with conversive over-determination. Hașdeu’s theory is discussed in relation with the Neoplatonian (Plotinian) doctrine regarding free will and providential action, but also with what Haşdeu called dual personality, a phenomenon that takes the principle of the two contrary concepts of Greek speculation. These issues give to Hașdeu’s spiritualism, in general, and to his philosophy of history, in special, a profound anthropological optimism.
