The purpose of this article is to discuss the source of the translation of the biblical lectures that can be found in Dosoftei’s work Parimiile preste an (Iaşi, 1683). The starting point of this discussion consists in comparing the lectures from the book of Job, as can be found in this prophetologium, with the corresponding fragments in the first Romanian translations of the Old Testament, dating also from the 17th century, in order to verify the existence of a relationship between them. The novelty consists in the fact that the Greek and Slavonic sources of these translations are also taken into account, whether these sources are well known or merely possible. The discussion also implies another Romanian prophetologium, probably from the 16th century. This extensive comparison shows that Dosoftei translates a Slavonic or Byzantine prophetologium, which rules out the hypothesis of the metropolitan having taken the Old Testament fragments from a contemporary Romanian translation of the Septuagint. It also shows the dificulty of finding which kind of prophetologium he translated, if the source of Parimiile preste an was Byzantine or Slavonic.
