Rezumat:Our paper aims at presenting a practical activity held with the foreign students in The Preparatory Year from Petroleum-Gas University of Ploieşti. The international students learn Romanian as a foreign language, but teaching is based not only on the linguistic acquisition, but also on the intercultural dimension, on the interactive learner-centered activities. All these together with the modern communicative methods and instruments lead to an efficient didactic process.
The activity we are going to present took place in the academic year 2014-2015 and its topic was The International Labour Day (1 May) - a multicultural perspective. Students from four countries took part in this activity: they were from Bulgaria, Angola, Zimbabwe, North Korea. They were divided into four groups, representative of each country and the teachers were moderators as well as participants representing Romania. Our debate took into consideration different aspects regarding the ways of celebrating this day. In the end, we noticed the cultural differences between the five countries, but we also pointed the common elements.
Our activity proved (by the feedback our students gave us) that the communicative method of teaching and the cultural interference are good for the foreign students in learning and spontaneously using Romanian.
