| Rezumat: | [A different salary] The article deals with the specific use of the term “leafă”/ ‘salary’ during the last decades of the 19th century, regarding situations in which “leafă” did not mean a work reward offered when someone was employed and performed some kind of work, but represented a certain advantage given to some categories of people designated for other reasons as well. The general sense of “advantage”, which could include the meaning of the term “leafă” used in similar situations (as mentioned above), might have some contextual values which would correspond either to the modern term subvention (similar to a social or medical benefit) or favour. The article analyzes, based on the etymological sense, the way in which the term “leafă” reaches the meaning of “advantage” and explains various situations obtained from the documents. |
