Rezumat: | One of the most controversial metaphors in the Bible is the metaphor of the divine marriage between God and man. This metaphor first appears in the book of Prophet Hosea and its analysis has formed two opposite sides in the XXth century: the feminist and the traditional interpretation. The feminist exegesis claims that the biblical language concerning the marital metaphor reinforces the negative stereotypes about women and female sexuality and tolerates male physical violence, thus practicing a harsh criticism of the biblical text. The traditional approach is also very fragmented and it has had many contradictory theses because of the difficulty of the Hoseanic text. In my paper I will explore the history of the divine marriage metaphor’s interpretation, starting with the Jewish Talmud until nowadays. |
