| Rezumat: | Writing in an academic style is targeted for an informed and critical audience, based on closely investigated knowledge, and intended to appreciate an impersonal and dispassionate tone. Academic writing usually circulates within the academic world (the academy), but the academic writer may also find an audience outside via journalism, speeches, pamphlets and other means of communication. Academic writing is quite different from the chatty, conversational style we use when communicating with friends. It is also different from the type of writing we read in many newspapers or novels. It is more formal than other types of writing and it follows certain conventions. In the academic writing style one of the most important aspects is to keep our writing clear and concise and make sure that the audience will get our ideas over in a comprehensible form. While writing a scientific text there are issues that drive us on, such as creating new knowledge and gaining approval, but there are also things that hold us back, such as difficulties in getting started, revising the text, finding our voice and generally feeling inadequate. The purpose of this article is not only to provide a reference guide to some of the most common mistakes in academic writing, but to also emphasize the necessity of the logic and beauty of language and of the clear and deep expression which have a positive impact on every aspect of the academic work. |
