[Dealing with Memory in Romanian Contemporary Fiction] After 1989, the theme of collective memory and of national culture has been revived in Eastern European states, especially in the field of literature. In Romania, the memories of the Communist times are reclaimed through literature by both canonical authors and by the representatives of the younger generations. Together, they participate to the construction of a collective imaginary of recent history, by proposing competing versions of remembering the past. This paper investigates the aplicablity of a set of conceptual instruments from the field of cultural memory to the study of Romanian literature in postcommunism.
