| Rezumat: | In spite of devoting most of his poems to the city life, Carl Sandburg’s nostalgia for his native prairie permeates his literary creation. In the longer poem The Prairie as well as in some shorter poems, such as Grass, this spatial element acquires symbolical and mythical dimensions in strong opposition with the “corrupted” urban world. The principles of fertility and motherhood, eternity and vastity complete the image of the prairie as seen by Carl Sandburg. |
