| Rezumat: | The paper attempts to present the situation of theatre at the end of the 19th century, a moment when two tendencies are felt: that of the naturalists, in the vision of which theatre should present “slices of life” and that of the symbolists for which the exaltation of the dream and emotion prevail in dramatic plays. In their opinion, theatre must be essentially poetical, released from the everyday existence and action, an motionless theatre having its sources in mysticism and the supernatural. |
