| Rezumat: | The interest for politeness as social norm dates back since the times of ancient rhetoric. Each epoch had its politeness norms and these norms have their specific features in each community. In the 1970s, linguists began to be interested in conversation and in politeness in verbal interactions. R. Lakoff is considered a forefather in this domain. He was inspired by Grice’s maxims (1979) on conversation. In time, numerous linguists have realized how rich this domain really is and invested their theoretization efforts in it. Among them we find the names of G. N. Leech (1980), E. Goffman (1973-1974), P. Brown and S. Levinson (1978), whose model inspired the work of C. Kerbrat-Orecchioni (beginning with 1990) and of numerous other researchers. |
