| Rezumat: | This paper is focused on the traumatic experience of matrophobia, as informed by the feminist critic Nancy Chodorow and depicted by Doris Lessing in two of her autobiographical writings: Under My Skin and Walking in the Shade. I will demonstrate that autobiography writing provides Lessing with a means to explore and understand her matrophobia, and to create a sense of self out of her difficult relationship with her mother. |
