The purpose of our analysis is to determine the limits of understanding the language action at Paul of Tarsus. Their cause can be located at two levels: 1) ideological, by interpreting the ideological apostle behavior (which has assimilated the role of activist or “communicator”); 2) idiomatic, through Bible translation options due to cultural context, the confrontation between Catholicism and Protestantism. In the center of our analysis is the First Epistle to the Corinthians, chapter XIV, whose appearances in French over time were followed in seven translations of Scripture. Based on these fragments we concluded that illocutionary intention and the recipient match prevails (at St. Paul and his translators) on semantic correspondences and stylistic searches.
