| Rezumat: | The connection of “homeland” and “landscape” has been seen as one of the most substantial characteristics of the lyric poems by the German language poet Rose Ausländer, born in Habsburg Czernowitz in 1901.This article focuses on homeland as a construction of geographic landscapes which include real locations and natural features but also some of the myths of her childhood, and historical ruptures. Poetry evoking these landscapes was dominant in Ausländer’s oeuvre until the 1950s. It changed later into a more experimental and hermetic style when the loss of the multicultural and Jewish homeland shaped her consciousness and led to short poems with few words, eventually leading in turn to the creation of mental landscapes. |
