| Abstract: | The end of the XVIIth century represents a moment of reorientation towards the Western values mediated by the Greek and Latin languages, as a rection against the Paleoslavonic which, for many centuries, had been holding the supremacy in the cultural, spiritual and political life in the Romanian States. One of its effects was the enrichment of the romanian vocabulary with Greek and Latin words. The preference for this type of neologism, to Paleoslavonic’s detriment, is obvious in Antim Ivireanul’s works. He used more than 30 Greek and Latin neologisms in his sermons. Our paper presents these words from etymological and historical point of view. |
