Abstract:[Persuasive Function of Presuppositions in Romanian Media Discourse]
The article deals with pragmatic presuppositions seen as powerful persuasive tools in media discourse. The (false) information conveyed by media as presuppositions, i.e. as background knowledge elements, commonly accepted, have the force to modify ideological beliefs and to impose new social representations. We took into consideration some specific media contexts in which the encoding of new information as given information through presuppositions is a common discursive strategy, in order to identify and describe its rhetorical, argumentative and manipulative functions.
Key words:
  • presupoziţii pragmatice, uz persuasiv, reprezentări sociale, manipulare
  • pragmatic presuppositions, persuasive use, social representations, manipulation
