Abstract:[The concept of literary language within a dialect applied to Aromanian from G. Ivănescu’s perspective]
Of all historical dialects of Romanian language, only Aromanian has grown a literary register or the beginnings of a literary register. This linguistic reality made the Romanian scholar G. Ivănescu to introduce the concept of literary language within a dialect and apply it to the Aromanian dialect. The development of a literary register in the Aromanian dialect was studied by G. Ivănescu from its beginnings in the second half of the 18th century, owing to the works of Moscopolitan writers Cavalioti, Daniil, Ucuta, until the moment when the author ended his renowned and highly praised work Istoria limbii române [The History of Romanian Language] (1980).
Our article emphasizes the claims of the outstanding Romanian linguist, and brings more concrete examples of Aromanian literary language, which, on the one hand, will confirm his views, but on the other will contradict them, especially when it comes to the post December 1989 reality.
Key words:literary langage, literary language within a dialect, Aromanian writers, Aromanian written texts
