Rezumat:In the first part of the presentation, the author gives a short account of how the GGI (Grande Grammatica Italiana di Consultazione) has been conceived and realized. The GGI was published in 3 volumes by Il Mulino between 1995 and 1998 (2nd edition 2001), having been edited by the author himself together with Giampaolo Salvi and Anna Cardinaletti and the collaboration of other 49 scholars. The accent is on the essentially generativist inspiration of the grammar, but at the same time he mentions the presence of themes of different origins. The second part of the article is devoted to the presentation of the Italant (Italiano antico) project, which has already reached an advanced stage; it aims at giving a full synchronic description of the morphology and syntax of the 13th and of the beginning of 14th century Florentine. This is the initial stage of the language which would later become Italian. Whenever this work would have been completed, it will form the first part of the diachronic segment ending now with modern Italian, the way it has been described by the GGI. Hopefully in the future someone will take the initiative of carrying out one of the missing parts, in order to reconnect the two stages of the Italian language, the most ancient and the most recent one, which have been described in these two books with similar methodologies.
