Abstract: | [Intrasentential adverbial synonym pairs in Old Romanian] The aim of the paper is the study of adverbial synonym structures in use since the earliest attested Romanian texts (examples: “...cum [how] and în ce feliu... [in what way]”, DC, D, p. 23). Despite attempts to analyse this phenomenon (Al. Niculescu and Stela Toma), previous studies were rather general in character and focused on parts of speech such as verbs, nouns and adjectives. Therefore, this paper will thoroughly analyse the lexical and syntactic behaviour of the adverb, which has proven to be both interesting and particular. Although such structures probably occurred due to stylistic reasons, emphasis will be laid on relevant structures as well as on the mechanisms that led to such syntagms. A diachronic approach can also help one understand the formation of phraseological units that have survived until now but which cannot be fully understood without an in-depth study. The study of these language facts will undoubtedly facilitate a better understanding of the structure of statements, both at intersentential and intrasentential level. |
