| Abstract: | [A semantic and pragmatic typology of appositions in Old Romanian] The aim of the paper is to briefly describe the semantic and pragmatic typology of appositive constructions, by partially applying Charles Meyer's (1992) model. According to the degree of specificity, the appositive structures can be grouped in semantic and pragmatic classes in the following manner: appositions with a high degree of specificity: identification and naming (e.g. appellation at Meyer 1992), and exemplifying; ‘less specific’ appositions are the characterization type, and finally, in the class of appositions that are ‘as specific as their anchor’ we find reformulation and self-correction (see Quirk et al. 1985: 1308‒1316; Meyer 1992: 73‒82). Each class of apposition is linked to at least one semantic relation. |
