Abstract:[Translation of unconventional anthroponyms – The case of bynames]
This paper explores the translation of proper names by analysing sociolinguistic motivations especially with respect to the unconventional category of bynames. To illustrate the theoretical aspects emphasised, the present study proposes an intercultural approach to journalistic texts that contain onomastic elements. Proper names impose specific features on the translation of a fragment from one language into another (i.e., from Romanian into French and vice versa). The results of anthroponymic translation allow for a cross-cultural approach to bynames.
