| Abstract: | The article deals with the problem of adjacent pairs in the process of speech acts. Defined as ritual formulas, linked with consecutive replicas in a dialogue, adjacent pairs have a defining role in the structuring of speech acts. The second term of the adjacent pair depends on the first both logically and sequentially, forming a cause – effect pattern. Although insignificant on the informational level adjacent pairs contribute to strengthening the relationship between interlocutors, marking the place and time of each intervention in conversation. |
