Abstract:[Pragma-stylistic Remarks on a Term: Gripă Porcină (‘swine flu’)] These pages aim to visit the avatars of the terminological phrase gripă porcină (“swine influenza / flu”) in the medical technolect and in the object-language (touching upon a few interlinguistic considerations). Based on a corpus formed entirely of statements collected from the electronic media (on-line newspapers, discussion forums, blogs), this presentation aims also to emphasize a the linguistic mechanisms (lexical, syntactical, pragmatic) used by speakers to denote a more or less subtle distancing from a certain event or fact (social, political, medical... ) – as well as from the acute respiratory malady caused by the A(H1N1) virus.
