| Abstract: | [Specialized markers for expressing approximation and vagueness in old Romanian] This paper proposes a syntactic and semantic analysis of different types of approximation in Old Romanian: proper approximation, approximation obtained through indeterminacy and gradual approximation. The role of approximation in Old Romanian is to emphasize a piece of information or to fill a gap of information. It is important to note the high number of markers that work as modifiers of a nominal expressing quantitative-qualitative approximation and the markers from structures that express non-numerical quantitative approximation. An important role in expressing approximation / vagueness in Old Romanian is played by partitive structures and pseudo-partitive that includes vague non-numerical quantifiers. |
