Abstract:The current paper sets out to present an updated overview of the translation from Serbian into Romanian, to highlight the dominant tendencies in the views of the best translators, as well as to reveal the specific features of the translation methods. The diachronic presentation will focus on the translators‟ reflections, while the synchronic one will examine statements regarding both the practice and the theory of translation. This combined diachronic and synchronic approach will foreground several significant elements in the evolution of translation, from theories to strategies and techniques. The ultimate purpose of this paper is to evaluate the contributions of various translators and to highlight certain general aspects characterising them from a methodological perspective. The paper will also try to evaluate the degree of representativeness of translations, as well as the extent to which translators adhere to the functional principle in preservation the source-text information.
