Abstract:From a semiotic perspective, a song represents a complex structure consisting of a linguistic component and of one or two non-linguistic components (music and / or clip) which influence one another. After 1989, the linguistic component underwent an obvious democratisation of use, which sometimes resulted in vulgarity. Reaction to the restrictions imposed by the Communist era, a certain kind of “antikalophilia”, the precise addressability and the idea of representability can be invoked to account for this inclination towards the low level, along with some recent metalinguistic approaches, where the author acts as a teacher who presents an informal technique of teaching a certain language. The analysis of my corpus emphasized the existence of some convergent tendencies, which might be caused by the law of efficiency, the influence of spoken language, the mixture of languages (Romanian and English) and of registers (with preference for unusual combinations and non-literary elements), as well as, in some cases, by a doubtful linguistic competence.
