Our paper aims an inventory, an interpretation and a statistical analysis of the Romanian phytonims created with the terms related to the (Holy) Cross and how it is reflected in our ethnobotany. As expected, Romanians named many plants with synonyms and words related to the term cross, undergoing specific lexical transformations, proving that the terms are long time used in Romanian language and that Phytonimy is a reliable source of linguistic thesaurus.
Key words:
Romanian phytonimy, linguistic imaginary, connotation, denotation, cross
