Abstract:A rather extensive literature deals with the cross-linguistic typology of multiple wh-fronting (both relative and interogative clauses), in an attempt to correlate their syntactic mechanism (mostly the landing site of the wh phrases) to the hierarchy of the wh-words and to their positions of extraction. The present paper aims to draw the attention towards the main patterns of multiple wh-fronting constructions in Old Romanian and the microparameters of wh-phrases hierarchy between Old and present-day Romanian.
Key words:
  • deplasarea multiplă a elementului wh, ierarhia grupurilor wh, deplasarea wh, româna veche
  • multiple wh-fronting, hierarchy of wh-phrases, wh-movement, Old Romanian
