| Abstract: | The focus of the present article is on the possessive doubling through the agency of the semi-independent possessive pronoun al (= al2 or al ‹doubling element›) in structures that imply subordinate syntagms (with al2 as regent) in coordination (e.g. some friends of mine and yours). Placing double possessives within the large framework of doubling in Romanian (doubling of the direct and indirect object) the author considers ‹the doubled element› well as ‹the doubling element›, in spite of co-referentiality, as structurally distinct entities/positions. Syntactically, they do not constitute sub-units of a position but illustrate the phenomenon of repetition and, consequently, they must have their place in a structural scheme. |
