| Abstract: | [Official vs. unofficial in the names of certain plants in the region of Chioar] The present paper aims to investigate 50 phytonyms from the region of Chioar, Romania, and it provides an analysis regarding the differences between scientific names, literary/common names and folk names, using Coșeriu’s theory of linguistic variation as a theoretical framework. The study focuses on folk names of plants, examining their lexical mechanisms of construction and their cultural and linguistic motivation. |
