| Abstract: | [Clichéd anthroponyms in pamphlet television shows: Between irony and manipulation] Pamphlet television shows are a controversial genre in Romanian audio- visual space, both because of the uncertain status they have in current law and due to ethical reasons. Dominated by the effervescence of freedom of expression, these types of programmes often undermine, through the virulent attack to person, the right to human dignity. In this context, the aforementioned media type ensures the optimum conditions for the proliferation of a category of unconventional anthroponyms with specific status: politicians’ nicknames. Through the analysis, strategically focused on the first three pamphlet TV shows in Romanian media landscape (In the mass media’s den, State of the Nation, Banciu’s World), we verify the hypothesis of an adjacent, subversive motivation, which rests at the core of the process of giving nicknames to politicians. |
