Abstract:[Greek zoonyms. Dog names in Xenophon’s treatise On hunting]
This paper aims to analyse, from a lexical, morphological and semantic point of view, the 47 Greek zoonyms in Xenophon’s treatise On hunting. The zoonyms are a result of conversion and derivation from common nouns, adjectives or verbs, which refer to different instruments, weapons or physical and moral qualities. Consequently, one could say that the names perserve the semantic features of the basis. That is why, in my opinion, the Greek zoonyms do not seem to be totally arbitrary.
