Abstract:[On the toponymy of Săgeata commune, Buzău county]
The name of Săgeata is derived from Stan Săgeata, the first inhabitant who settled on the territory of the present locality. As regards the origin of the names of the other localities in the commune, the following can be stated: in Beilic village, the Turks created a regional tax collecting point; Șăineasca and Plevna villages remind one of the 1877 Independence war; Dâmbroca and Moviliţa are situated on a knoll/an elevation; the inhabitants of Găvănești and Baniţa made pots and bushels out of the wood they cut from the nearby forest. The northern border of the commune consisted of The iron road, which, during the Middle Ages, ensured merchants’ travel from the Carpathians to Brăila.
