The purpose of this paper is, on one hand, to present some of the most common pronunciation mistakes made by speakers of Romanian, Catalan and Spanish when learning the other two languages. On the other hand, it aims to emphasize the role of perception in the acquisiton of second languages and the need to make a distinction between the phonetic and the phonological level, as long as it seems to be proved that universal principles apply in the case of SLA.
