Abstract:The aim of the article is to delineate the semantic zones for possible pragmaticalizations, with a view to describing micro and macro syntaxes jointly. We are going to refer here only to verbal expressions which are at the origin of discourse markers, starting from the verbal category known as parenthetical verbs The results will confirm the starting hypothesis that verbs susceptible of such changes can, semantically speaking, be included in the wider category of verbs which refer to the communication situation. Expressing “weak” information, they will be prone to semantic bleaching and to developing pragmatic meanings, many of them even procedural ones. Taking into account their loss of grammatical functions and their nonintegration in the sentence (at micro-syntactic level), the discursive space model has helped us integrate these markers at macro-syntactic level, with “places” (spaces) and functions in the discourse.
