Massim] The present article aims to describe the manner in which the authors of the first historical dictionary of the Romanian language (Dicţionarul limbii române. Tom. I–III. După însărcinarea dată de Societatea Academică Română by A. T. Laurian and I. C. Massim) employ cognitive metaphors and mental imagery in order to convey their understanding of language and its development. Attention will also be given to the relationship between language, ideology and national identity as reflected in the Preface to Laurian and Massim’s dictionary. |
