Abstract:[The Psalms’ Vetero-Testamentary Literature: Levels of Semiotic-Pragmatic Analysis]
The psalm, seen as a text circumscribed to fiction from the stylistic point of view and subordinated – when seen as a poem – to the lyrical genre, has been regarded in our study as a particular type of a solo addressing discourse. This feature has allowed us to analyze this type of text from the “dramatization”’s perspective. Pointing out the “dramatic” framework led us, among others, to handle some concepts like: “stage vision”, “narrated dialogue”, “dramaturgical function”, “dialogism” or “poly semantics”, fully justified in the psalmic text, where, in many discursive situations, a certain type of communication corresponding to the basic rules of an authentic dialogue is updated.
The Psalmist, essentially a homo religious, can be equally defined as homo aestheticus, and as homo dramaticus, in particular, claiming the right to exist (even in the fundamental manner) by virtue of a discursive principle, usually, under the need to communicate with God and other instances: the negative character embodied by “the many”; nature (“personified”); a generic you (who embodies the human condition and which the lyrical topic of the psalms identifies itself with) or the very self (the splitting).
In general, all these “communication partners’ cues are rendered in a direct style, an important aspect which reveals the propensity of the biblical text for the “dramatic”.
The stage vision is also backed up by the talent to render on the spot an episode, in all its motion and verbal dynamics, the psalmist embodying its genuine witness.
The mere evocation (with the use of the imperfect tense and without any dialogue) of one the past moments, in addition to a series of physical-gestural descriptions come to give clear dramatic attributes to the text.
The redundant expression of the pronoun-subject represents (besides an archaic particularity) a grammatical means of dramatic stress on the instances involved in the communication (the same as in the evangelic literature).
