Abstract:We stand before a case study on literature, i.e. a fragment from the poem Lacul (The Lake) by Mihai Eminescu. The study belongs to a duet of comparative-contrastive analysis together with the fragment from Amintiri din Copilarie (Memories of my Boyhood) by Ion Creanga. The focus here is set on the issue of translation perceived through the phenomenon of translation of literature, which is to be considered the means to express and identify national values of a certain people. In order to support this idea, our paper considers in parallel a text in Romanian and its 2 variants of translation into English: one is the official translation, the one that is already on the market, while the other one is an entirely new and original one: the English version of a Romanian literary text, performed within the translation workshop held with the students of our faculty.
Key words:case-study, literary translation, comparative-contrastive analysis, national values
