Abstract:In the Old Romanian literary writings, the use of the religious writing patterns has known both a progressive development and a gradual shift towards laicisation. From the imitation and reproduction of the prosodic model and of the figures of speech typical for the religious texts, the literary writing was reshaped in full agreement with and in the spirit of the characteristics of the period when Romanian strived to establish itself as the ecclesiastical and literary language of the time, and, consequently, it underwent a detachment from the religious sources towards complete laicisation. The change occurred during the second half of the eighteenth century, under the influence of the Western stylistic patterns.
