| Abstract: | The paper Modalities of naming divinity in Arghezi’s poetic text analyzes the various semantic and stylistic possibilities used by a nonconformist poet as Arghezi to refer to the divinity and, by extension, to the entire religious vocabulary. Depending on the context, divinity is: Dumnezeu, Domnul, El, Cel-de-Sus, Sfinţia- Sa, Împresuratul de Astre, Acel-ce-ştie, Părinte, Tatăl, Cine-ştie-Cine, Cineştie, Careva, Acela Carele, A-toate-făcătorul, Cel ce făcuse lumea, Cel-ce-se-ascunde, Mare-aprinzătorul de stele etc. By cataloging the numerous names, but also a wide range of memorable stylistic sequences, our analysis will reveal mainly two phenomena: the semantic polarization and the poetic metaphorization, by using religious words, which comprise a dominant semantic field in Arghezi’s poetry. |
